Western Exposure TV & Film Production

Western Exposure – Independent TV & Film

Responsive website for Western Exposure
Responsive website for Western Exposure

CLIENT: Phil Shingler, Western Exposure

Western Exposure specialises in investigative, historical and educational documentary production both for broadcast and non-broadcast distribution. Subject areas are in general environmental, social and political, involving co-production partners with also an emphasis on involving trainees in the production process.
Producer Philip Shingler has established a special relationship with producers in New Zealand, having produced the first documentary co-production between Channel 4 Television, the New Zealand Film Commission and Television New Zealand, “A Nuclear Free Pacific” (1989) with Pacific Stories Partnership & Vanguard Films in Wellington.

REQUIREMENTS:

To establish Phil’s first online presence primarily to provide documentation to film funding sources to aid in submitting outlines and work in progress. Secondary was to give brief examples of previous films and television documentary production. Phil also works with local communities in producing videos on local environmental issues, this needed to be illustrated on the website.

WEB SOLUTION:

The simple design and layout was created at the same time as the new Western Exposure logo, along with business cards. Although the website is small with regard to content, it was felt that CMS was the best way to go, to allow updating without coding, allow for expansion, and other administrators to make changes when necessary.

WEB SERVICES:

Design, implementation with Joomla!, hosting and administering the website, SSL, security, maintainance and back ups.

David Hosking Painter – Artsake Artist landing page

REQUIREMENTS:

Artsake Artists needs to grow it’s portfolio and exhibitions of established contemporary artists. Content should include a diversity of art medium: paintings, sculpture, prints, textiles, illustrators, photography, mixed-media.

It has to be easy to use, for artists to upload their images and text. The site text needs to explain clearly what is offered to both the artists and visitors to the site.

It was necessary to reduce administration of the artists’ content from the website administrators in order to allow a lower monthly pricing model.

It should appear that each artist effectively gets their own website which opens in its own browser window from the parent Artsake website.

A diary of events and exhibitions was also required, to be fullfilled by Artsake artists but also by registered guests such as gallery owners and exhibition organisers.

WEB SOLUTIONS:

Joomla! was used with two template designs. The first took care of the main parent website containing all the information and registration processes. The second was used for each exhibiting artist. The challenge still remains to gain more interest to increase the number of contributing artists. A major marketing campaign is being planned as the next step.

WEB SERVICES:

Concept of business, design and implementation using Joomla! as the CMS. Routine maintainance, updates, security fixes and back ups.

Cheshire Carriages responsive website for horse-drawn carriages repairs and maintenance

CLIENT: John S. Houghton – Cheshire Carriages

Cheshire Carriages is a family business established in the early 1900s.  Today, John provides consultation to horse-drawn carriage owners, maintenance services and repairs horse-drawn vehicles of all types, including competition vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS:

The website needed to convey the historical background of the business, and the specialist services that John provides. A portfolio of case studies to show work undertaken. And an area for clients to advertise their carriages and parts for sale.

Not being computer-savvy, John prefered that I to keep it up-to-date with fresh content. Phone contact, not email, was paramount for him, for both existing clients and all new enquiries.

SOLUTIONS:

I maintain and update this website. I chose Joomla! as the CMS platform. However, this could quite easily have been a WordPress site. Email contact forms feed directly to John’s smartphone. Images and text are supplied to me by email.

SERVICES:

Design, SSL hosting, implementation of Joomla! CMS, content fulfillment, maintainance, and regular backups.
